The Shelleys in Milan, 1818-2018
Mary and Percy Bysshe Shelley left England on what would be Percy’s last journey on 11 March 1818. Their destination was Milan, where they arrived on 4 April 1818.
The conference investigates the beginning of the Shelleys’ ‘Italian experience’, and to shed light on the way in which this initial exposure to Italy and its culture shaped their future life and works. The Shelleys’ residence in Milan will be set against the backdrop of travels in Northern Italy in the early nineteenth century.
The conference is co-organised and co-hosted by Università degli Studi di Milano and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
