When Sources Lie: Why, when and how do we trust our evidence?

Are we always able to assess the reliability of our sources? Why do we trust our evidence, when we do, and how do we make sense of it? Starting from two very peculiar case studies, the lecture by Professor Hadfield will address the complexity of documentary and textual evidence as a source of knowledge, revealing early modern textual culture to be a rich and fruitful terrain to tackle one of the moot issues of our time, as the (apparent) boundaries between truth and lies are continuously challenged.
